Applying for Approved Clinician Approval
Applying for Initial Approval
For full details of indicators of eligibility and readiness to apply, please review the requirements contained within the Welsh Government Guidance on the Approval of Approved Clinicians. The nine Wales key AC competences and the statute governing the Approval of Approved Clinicians can be found at Annexe A.
For the complete list of documentation to submit, please review your particular route of application and refer to the table of documentation contained within the All Wales AC Procedural Arrangements document. Applicants must also undertake and complete a nationally accredited MHA AC induction course. AC Induction Certificates are valid for two years and must remain valid at the point of the All Wales Approval Panel assessing all applications.
Applying for Five Yearly Approved Clinician Re-approval
Approved Clinicians whose approval is due for renewal must attend and complete a nationally accredited MHA AC refresher course. The course should be satisfactorily completed no more than two years prior to current date of expiry. Completion of the refresher course must be followed up by an application seeking five yearly re-approval. Completed applications for re-approval should be submitted seven weeks prior to expiry. For the complete list of documentation required to submit, please refer to the table of documentation contained within the All Wales AC Procedural Arrangements document.
For first time applicants and for clinicians seeking five yearly re-approval, a full list of documentation to be submitted can be found in the All Wales AC Procedural Arrangements document.
Please complete an enquiry form to request the Approval Team to send you the application documents. You should state on the form if you are seeking initial approval or re-approval.
When you have collated your completed application documents, please submit these to the Approval Team. You may either upload them to our secure portal on this website or you may choose to email the documents directly to the Approval Team. The Approval Team receives a high number of communications. Therefore, it would be greatly appreciated if you would submit your documents as separate attachments in one overall email wherever possible.
Unfortunately, the All Wales Approval Panel is not able to assess incomplete applications. To avoid delay with your application, you must submit all documentation as listed in the All Wales AC Procedural Arrangements Document.
Annual Update Form
Clinicians who have been granted AC status are required to complete an annual update form on the anniversary of the approval date.
