Approved Clinician & Section 12(2) Induction & Refresher Training for Wales
Induction - 2 day course £375
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is pleased to offer a nationally accredited two day initial training course for prospective Approved Clinicians and Section 12(2) doctors. Completion of the Induction course will be accepted by BCUHB as evidence of initial training for the purposes of applying for approval as a Section 12(2) Doctor or an Approved Clinician in accordance with the legislative requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended). This training is eligible for 12 CPD points per completed course, subject to peer group approval (Psychiatrists only). Induction delegates are required to complete pre-course reading, knowledge checks and quizzes prior to course attendance, then complete the two days of the induction course in full.
Refresher Training – 1 day course £210
Approved Clinicians and Section 12(2) doctors seeking re-approval in Wales should attend refresher training during the final two years of their current approval period. BCUHB is also pleased to offer a one day nationally accredited refresher training course for Approved Clinicians and Section 12(2) doctors who are seeking re-approval in accordance with the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended). This training is eligible for 6 CPD points per completed course, subject to peer group approval (Psychiatrists only). Refresher delegates should review the online course materials, knowledge checks and quizzes prior to course attendance. The one day refresher course must be completed in full.
Both courses will provide delegates with an understanding of the powers, functions and duties of Section 12(2) Doctors, Approved Clinicians and others under the Mental Health Act. The training will be set within the context of the wider legal, policy and guidance framework, which govern and affect situations requiring the presence or intervention of an Approved Clinician, Responsible Clinician or Section 12(2) Doctor.
Attendance at the training alone does not signify approval, all attendees must submit an application for approval/re-approval with supporting documents to the approvals team.
Trainers, Training Policy and Study Leave
The courses are organised by BCUHB and will be delivered by Neil Allen and Associates via Zoom webinar. The sessions are interactive so all delegates must ensure they have full access to a microphone and camera. Delegates are required during the sessions to keep cameras switched on at all times and deactivate notifications on phones and other digital devices to avoid distracting Trainers and delegates. Your full participation is required throughout each session.
You should ensure that authorised study leave is in place for you to attend the course because it will not be possible for you to leave and rejoin the course for you to undertake any clinical or other duties.
