Welcome to the All Wales Approved Clinicians and Section 12(2) website.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is the Approving Body responsible for the approval, reapproval or ending of approval for Approved Clinicians and Section 12(2) Doctors who wish to become approved within the meaning of the Mental Health Act (1983) as amended (2007).

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board exercises this function on behalf of all Health Boards in Wales using authority delegated by the Welsh Minister for Health and Social Services, by Directions made under the National Health Service (Wales) Act 2006.

An approved clinician is a mental health professional approved by the Welsh Ministers to act as such for the purpose of the Mental Health Act 1983 ("the 1983 Act"). Some decisions under the 1983 Act can only be undertaken by people who are Approved Clinicians or Section 12(2) Doctors.

We welcome correspondence in Welsh or English.

Welsh language correspondence will be replied to in Welsh, and this will not lead to a delay.
